News Driven Markets
Updated: Feb 24, 2022
BULLS: Market volatility is often based on news. We are most certainly in that type of market. In 2022, we have seen a modest correction of 10% and there's a good chance we go quite a bit lower. How much lower? Nobody knows. Technical analysis indicates that we are in a sideways market. This means that it's prudent to raise cash and use profit protection principles. Cash is a position. Repeating cash is a position. If you're a growth investor you should have gone to cash on many positions. If you are a dividend investor and rely on those dividends, you can employ a covered call strategy and put any hyper bullish strategies back in the tool box. No more straight calls unless we see a trend change. One thing for sure, it would be great if the negative headlines calmed down a bit. Right now, fuel related stocks have done very well and will most likely continue to climb and provide ample dividends. Many of them are too extended for entry.
BALLERS: College basketball is moving to the forefront but I'm feeling some NFL withdrawal pains after the most exciting postseason ever. Spring training is doomed in my opinion. It has been a long time since any labor strife in MLB and this current crop of players feel challenged by the commissioner. Athletes don't like to back down to challenges.
